Candles have
come a long way from the simple plain beeswax to colored, scented, adorned,
endless shapes and sizes. Electric
lighting can never beat a simple candle when it comes to bringing a warm and
cozy atmosphere to a room. Candles are
magical. Candles can uplift us,
energize us, calm us, relax us, put us in the mood for romance, help us focus during meditations, enhance massage and assist
in energy work. Candle colors have a direct effect on our moods, our thoughts and
our health because of their vibration. Everything of color has subtle influences and each one vibrates
at a different frequency right down to the clothes that we wear. Candles have been a source of light, pleasure and
ritual for many centuries. Examples are burning a candle for a beloved in a church,
candles lit on a church alter, blowing out the candles on a birthday cake while
making a wish, leaving a lit candle at a
window for loved ones to find their way home, and candles in a jack-o-lantern
at Halloween.
Many books
have been written regarding candles and rituals. If choosing candles to do rituals, setting
intentions or meditating to receive answers from within your self or the
universe, we have listed a few simple guidelines. For more in depth instructions, you may try

ENERGY NEVER
STOPS, WHETHER THOUGHT, WORD OR DEED.
Use your energy with candles to manifest your desires.
Place an
alter candle on your sacred space to purify and protect. It should be larger or taller than all other
candles in use.
Choose a new
candle for each purpose. (see the grids

You should cleanse your space. (sacred space, alter)
Do the work
in private or in a group but without added interruptions.
Relax and have a positive state of mind.
Always
cleanse your candle before use away from your alter or sacred space.
Claim the
candle as yours. Candles
absorb personal power.
Put your own
energy and intention into each candle.
Carve your intentions into the
candle or write the petition on paper.
Do not use
matches to light your candles.
Clean your
candles with mineral oil, baby oil, olive oil or holy water using a soft cloth
or towel. Let dry completely on a towel
for a few minutes.
Bless the
intention candle with a short prayer to the deity of your choice. You may also add: “I empower this candle to
do my work as it vibrates with life and it bends only to my will”.
Alter
candles should also be blessed and may be dressed with Frankincense, Myrrh or a
blend of Holy oils. These candles may be
used repeatedly unlike the intention candles.
No need to carve the alter candle.
PETITION
Use a sharp
object to carve your intention into the candle.
Focus your energy clearly. If the
candle is too small or in a glass holder, write the intention on a piece of paper to be placed underneath the
burning candle.
DRESSING
Dressing your
candle is the most important step. Use the oil of choice. i.e.: Money Draw,
Success, Love Drawing, Prosperity, Health Drawing. Your energy is absorbed into the candle as you focus deeply
on your intention while you apply the oil.
If using more than one oil, wash and dry hands
thoroughly between each.
If the candle
is in a glass container, drop oil onto the wax and rub in a counterclockwise
motion to draw in and clockwise to send away.
Wax candles
to send away: Focus thoughts and images
deeply on the goal, and with the top or bottom pointed away from you, rub the oil
from the center to the end in a
counter-clockwise motion.
Wax candles
to attract: Focus thoughts and images
deeply on the goal, and with the top or the bottom facing you, rub the oil from
the center to the end in a clockwise motion.
RITUAL
Light your
pilot candle from a lighter away from the sacred space. Using the pilot, light your candles starting
with the alter candle. For at least
twenty minutes, sit and focus on the completion of your intention as you gaze
into the flame of the candle. As you
meditate, you may sit quietly, vocalize, sing, hum, chant or pray with or
without music, Remember, the more
forceful and intense the energy, the quicker the results. The candles may be left to burn down
completely or extinguished and relit each consecutive day until burned

SYMBOLISM OF
COLOR
BLACK - Banishing negativity,
absorbing negativity, transition; the ending of something that is the beginning
of something else. Black is the absence of color. Despite what you may have
heard, black candles are also burned for positive purposes, shielding from
evil, or to absorb illness and nasty habits.
BLUE: healing,
peace, patience, psychic realm, happiness, wisdom,
spirituality, understanding, inspiration, friendship, sincerity, harmony.
Blue is the color of the element of Water. Blue is also used in the realm of sleep
and of twilight. If you have trouble sleeping, charge a small blue candle with
the visualization of yourself sleeping through the night. Burn it a few moments
before you get into bed, then extinguish its flame. Blue candles can also be charged and burned
to awaken the psychic mind.
Blue(light): truth, inspiration, wisdom,
protection, good health, patience, tranquility, understanding, happiness, inner
peace, fidelity, harmony,
getting in contact
with higher self.
Blue (royal): happiness,
loyalty, group success, occult power, expansion
Blue (dark): changeability, depression,
impulsiveness.
BROWN: attract
money and success, influence earth elementals, grounding, concentration,
balance, ESP, intuition, study, communicate with
nature, hesitation, neutrality, uncertainty. Burned for spells invoking animals, usually
in combination with other colors. i.e.
a brown candle and a red candle for animal protection; brown and blue for
healing, and so on.
GOLD: fortune, intuition, understanding,
divination, fast luck, financial gain, attracts higher influences, money,
knowledge, healing, happiness. Gold or light, clear yellow, is associated with
male deity powers.
GREEN: money;
prosperity; financial matters, success, employment, fertility,
healing, growth, abundance, good fortune, generosity, success, renewal,
marriage, balance, communication with nature spirits, money, fertility,
finance, healing, luck. Green is the color of the element of earth. Burn when looking for a job or seeking a
needed raise.
INDIGO: meditation, neutralizing
another's magik, balancing karma, stop gossip, lies,
or undesirable competition.
MAGENTA: Usually used in association
with other colors, making things happen fast, quick change. When used alone,
Spiritual Healing, Exorcism.
ORANGE: prosperity,
creativity, enthusiasm, success, encouragement, abundance,
justice, luck, legal matters, stamina and energy, attraction,
energy, increasing personal physical energy, mental agility, sudden changes,
adaptability, attraction, encouragement, stimulation, dissuades laziness, helps
one to gain control, changes luck. A very powerful color, be prepared to face
major changes if you use it. Burn to attract specific
influences or objects.
PINK: love,
friendship, compassion, relaxation, associated with the purest form of true
love, happiness, affection, romance,
spiritual awakening and healing, banishing hatred, honor, morality. Pink candles can be burned during rituals
designed to improve self-love. They're
ideal for all forms of emotional union.
PURPLE: power,
healing severe diseases, spirituality, meditation, religion. personal growth,
success, idealism, higher psychic ability, wisdom, spiritual protection and
healing, honor, spirit contact, breaking bad luck or hexes, driving evil away,
divination, greater magikal knowledge, ambition,
business progress, power, tension, success in court cases, business success,
influencing people who hold power over you. Purple candles can be burned to
enhance all spiritual activities, to increase your magical power, and as a part
of intense healing rituals, in combination with blue candles. Use purple with caution: it's a very
powerful hue and can be difficult to handle.
RED – life,
maintaining health, bodily strength, physical energy, sex, passion, courage,
protection, vitality and defensive magic, energy, strength, sexual potency, physical
desire, passionate love, will power, conquer fear or laziness, courage, health,
sexual love, strength, vigor, protects against psychic attack. This color is
the element of Fire. Throughout the
world, red is associated with life and death.
SILVER (LIGHT GREY): victory,
stability, meditation, removal of negative power, repelling destruction,
cancellation, neutrality, developing psychic ability, stalemate. Silver is
primarily associated with female deities.
VIOLET: healing, peace, spirituality.
WHITE: protection,
purification, all purposes, purity, sincerity, truth, spirituality, greater
attainments in life, wholeness, higher power, contacting spirit helpers,
balancing auras ,helping pregnancy or birth, raising vibrations, destroying
destructive energy, confusing enemies.
It's linked with the moon. White contains all colors. Whenever in doubt
about a candle color, white is a safe choice. It is a highly balanced spiritual
hue. White candles are specifically burned during purification and protection
rituals. If you're to keep but one candle on hand for magikal
purposes, choose a white one. Before
use, charge it with personal power and it will work for all positive purposes.
YELLOW: unity,
intellect, inspiration, imagination, mind power, creativity, confidence, gentle
persuasion, attraction, charm, confidence, concentration, learning,
mental abilities, happiness, mental clarity, knowledge, commerce,
medicine, counseling, healing, protection, confidence, divination,
communication, eloquence, travel, movement. Yellow is the color of the element
of Air. Burn yellow candles during rituals designed to heighten your
visualization abilities. Before studying
for any purpose, program a yellow candle to stimulate your conscious mind.
Light the candle and let it burn while you study. If you are in the performing
arts, yellow is a great color to burn before each event.
